Field Trip: Cherokee Rock Village

Towering above Leesburg, Alabama (the Paris of the South), Cherokee Rock Village features monumental boulder formations, mature pine-oak-hickory forest, and spectacular views to the east and nearby Weiss Lake. Its fame, to the extent that is a thing, stems from it being a destination for rock climbers, who travel great distances to do bouldering there. But for our purposes, it's a spectacular place for hawk-watching in the Fall, and the woods are generally productive for songbirds, woodpeckers, and the like. We stand a chance at logging several species of early winter visitants, along with the resident species, and we hope, some fall migrants.
